Beyond Bangkok: 12 Thai provinces with no mountains. Some only have hills that don’t meet the height criteria.

Thailand has a highly diverse geography, ranging from the complex mountain ranges in the North to the vast river plains in the Central region. However, many people may not realize that some provinces are so flat that no area can be geographically defined as a ‘mountain’ at all.

According to physical surveys by geographical and mapping agencies, it was revealed that most provinces without mountains are located in the Chao Phraya River Basin and coastal areas. The list of these provinces is as follows: bangkok amut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Phichit, Maha Sarakham

The criteria for landform classification state that for an area to be called a ‘mountain,’ it must have an elevation of 600 meters or more above Mean Sea Level (MSL). If its height is below this threshold but it still rises above the surrounding terrain, it is classified as a ‘hill’ instead.
